The Birth of a Blog

Minneapolis, MN - 11/13/07

Welcome to the inaugural post of my new blog.  It’s great to have you here!  I launched my NewMediaWise practice this year as an extension of my longtime tech-marketing and startup-advisory consultancy, GT&A;Strategic Marketing.  Now it’s high time for me to begin a new blog to support it and communicate with my friends, colleagues, and clients—old and new. Some of you who land here have known me for years. To those of you who are new, I hope to get to know you, and that this new blog proves useful to you.

Many of you may also know me from my personal blog: Tech-Surf-Blog.com. I will continue to post content there as well, especially my coverage of technology conferences, and news about the Minnesota startup and tech community. [And, of course, a little surfing from time to time… :-) ]

Why did I launch my new consulting practice?  Because “New Media”—blogs, wikis, social networks, consumer-generated content, and more (and I include in that the rapid rise of different types of online advertising and widgets)—are changing the ball game....literally changing the way companies do business, changing our jobs, changing the practice of marketing and PR, changing business models, and inspiring many new startups. Yes, disrupting the status quo bigtime!  And I find that exhilarating.

My goal with this blog is to help you understand the shifting of the media and marketing landscape—so you can take advantage of the many new opportunities out there to launch businesses, energize and grow existing businesses, improve marketing effectiveness, boost personal and business productivity...and, well, generally make people’s lives better through Internet technologies.

I hope with this blog we can learn together about all the possibilities of New Media, to enhance the quality of what we do as “knowledge economy” professionals. And to have some fun along the way, too!  Please jump in and comment freely—I look forward to hearing from you.
